personal environment though architectural expression. We wanted to use the essential elements of a shelter (personal relief, security, and comfort) and intertwine them with the simple principles of modularity in graphic design and architecture. By documenting our interaction with the shelter and it’s materials we created a personal experience and relationship with the shelter that almost creates a living form. BACKGROUND & INFLUENCES: Our main influence was from the inventor of the geodesic dome, Buckminster Fuller, and the many architectural structures that he inspired. I specifically was interested in and researched sustainable geodesic dome structures that require few eco-friendly materials and have little impact on their surrounding environment. Geodesic tree domes have been designed for residential, meditation and meeting functions and strongly resemble the function of Japanese tea houses. Principles of harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility are central to tea ceremony practice; with this in mind, we wanted our dome to be an artist’s escape and creative sanctuary. Art of Never Forgetting entitled Memory: Physiological and Psychological. The type used for the pages in the book have been scanned and reprinted on craft paper then hand-sewn on to fabric swatches.
